People hate JD Vance.
One of the worse vice presidential candidate picks of all time is proving to be worse than we thought.
People really don’t like JD Vance.
This Diet Mountain Dew-drinking, couch-screwing, cat woman-hating Senator from Ohio who seems to have a war on childless people is proving to be one of the biggest blunders in recent political history. He wants to have one foot in Hillbilly Elegy, and the other foot in Yale. Basically, he wants to be smart, but not too smart. As for his personality, he comes across as the guy who takes the company charity softball game way too seriously, and who calls the HOA on every one of his neighbors.
Still, the choice of JD Vance has always been perplexing. Not only does he come across as the guy who still thinks he’s in a fraternity, but he doesn’t expand Trump’s electorate whatsoever. He just brings in former Jerry Springer guests that Trump had already solidified.
However, if we look at polling data provided in the latest New York Times/Siena poll of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, we see that people really don’t like the guy.
So, let’s start off with gender. While 43% of men have a favorable opinion of Vance, 31% of a very unfavorable opinion of him, with a total of 40% unfavorable. So, he’s above water by only 3%. Compare that with Trump’s 56% favorable rating with men, and he isn’t even close. As for women, 40% see Vance as very unfavorable, with only 32% of women giving him any favorable rating.
Moving over the young people, only 29% of 18-29 year olds have a favorable view of him, with only 31% of 30-44 year olds thinking the same. Voters over 65 also don’t like him, with only a 36% approval rating.
Of course, Vance is from the suburbs of Cincinnati, so you’d figure he’d do well in the burbs. Nope. Only 35% of suburban voters have a favorable view of Vance, while 37% have a “very” unfavorable view of Vance.
Hell, even within his party, it’s kind of shaky. While Trump has a 91% overall favorable rating with Republicans, Vance is only at 72%. That’s pretty damn low with the party faithful. As for independents, only 35% have a favorable view of Vance, with 46% having an unfavorable view.
If we look at where Vance was to play well, in Western Pennsylvania, he has a 44% favorable rating. Compare that to Trump’s 52% favorability rating in the same region.
Honestly, Donald Trump could have put anyone else on the ticket and would have probably suffered less damage. Personally, I don’t think this is the worst pick in modern political history, that goes to John McCain picking Sarah Palin. Still, Vance is proving to be a horrible choice that nobody likes.
