Democrats have become "Blue MAGA"
Loyalty to man and party, not country, has infected the Democratic Party.
Yesterday, the “vote for Biden to save democracy” argument died.
Prior to the Biden debate debacle, the narrative from the Democrats was “if you want to save democracy, you then need to vote against Trump.” Of course, this means that you have to vote for Biden, the only alternative in an extremely broken two-party political system.
Then Biden had his shitstorm of a performance in Atlanta.
Many Democrats finally spoke out and openly discussed changing horses. Personally, I was in this camp years ago, but it was nice to finally see some within the establishment elite, who had been holding Biden’s water since the beginning of his presidency, finally ask the tough question; is it time for Biden to be replaced as the Democratic nominee?
Those who openly opined did so based on rationality, and in some cases worry. Not just worry from the point of view of the democracy, but even from a personal point of view, wondering if Biden should go through another four months of absolute embarrassment. These critiques came from the heart, as well as from the brain. They weren’t made with malice towards the president, or a desire to push another person’s candidacy. These critiques were made out of true sincerity. Again, we are talking about some of Biden’s biggest supporters up to that time.
One of the most well-thought out pieces about the need to change horses was written up by the New York Times Editorial Board, stating that Biden had done his job, but no longer had the acumen to take on Donald Trump, whether it be on the debate stage or not. It was time to find someone who had the capacity to do the job.
The NYT Editorial Board words echoed those of others, it’s not the man’s policies, but the man’s abilities, and he just doesn’t have them anymore.
But then came the Blue MAGA partisans.
Thinking that they had just had their sainted grandmothers punched in the face, the keyboard warriors of the Blue MAGA movement defended Joe Biden. Some of the defenses were rational, like saying that it’s too lake to change horses (which it isn’t), while others were irrational, such as saying that he won the debate.
However, most of the defenders did so based on their blind loyalty to Joe Biden. There was no opening of eyes. There was no reflection. Basically, there was no room for criticism whatsoever. “How dare someone say that Joe Biden was less than perfect last night…how dare they” they cried from their online safe spaces.
Many of the Blue MAGA crowd showed their distain for any dissenting views by boycotting both the New York Times and CNN. Prior to Biden’s debate performance, these institutions were beloved by the Blue MAGA crowd, pasting article after article on their Twitter feed from both of these outlets.
However, both NYT and CNN indulged in the blasphemous sin of questioning the Dear Leader, Joe Biden. As a result, Blue MAGA cancelled their NYT subscription, following it with hashtags of #boycottnyt or #boycottcnn. The irony of how their approach mimics that of Red MAGA is probably totally lost on them.
Of course, others like Presidents Obama and Clinton are backing Joe Biden. Whether they are doing this as a friend of Biden or not, both men are trying to clutch onto influence in a dying institution, the Democratic Party.
We have now come to the point where true illiberal acts and words are coming from the Democratic elite rank-and-file. They are starting to live up to their name of the “intolerant left”. And all of this is based on the kamikaze-style loyalty to a man and a party. As Jim Jones stated, they are willing to take on revolution suicide (metaphorically, not actually) to keep the established order in the Democratic Party.
Still, one thing that Blue MAGA is also trying to do is make a false choice. They are stating that they would rather vote for Joe Biden than Donald Trump. They are focusing more of Trump’s lies than Biden’s blunders. Okay, that’s absolutely fair and right. However, changing candidates doesn’t change this narrative. Whether it is Joe Biden or someone else, the “we must beat Trump to save democracy” argument still stands. Therefore, the outrage over the last 24 hours have more to do with Biden, not Trump.
This goes back to my main point, which is that all of the critiques about Biden haven’t come from personal animosity toward the man. In fact, much of the over-the-top praise for Biden (which resembles that of Trump, if we are quite honest) has come from those asking for a new course.
But that matters not, as these sinner have thrown themselves into the hands of the devil by purely questioning anything regarding the Dear Leader, Joe Biden.
We’ve officially entered the Era of Cult politics.
